Hazard Reduction & Fire Breaks

During restricted burning periods open fires are not permitted unless you have a valid permit to burn. Hazard reduction burning that will reduce fire risk can be undertaken subject to conditions with a permit issued by a fire control officer. The restricted fire period may be on occasion varied due to seasonal conditions following the publication of a notice in the local press.

Firebreaks within the Town of Kwinana are to be constructed annually and maintained in accordance with the Town of Kwinana Firebreaks Notice.

Hazard Reduction Burning Schedule

Below is a listing of proposed scheduled dates for hazard reduction burning within the Town of Kwinana during restricted seasons of 2012.

Please note that the locations as listed are proposed only and are subject to change due to seasonal & prevailing weather conditions.

Public safety will always be considered first priority.

20 - 21 April Leda Reserve – Bush forever Homestead Ridge
28 - 29 April Kwinana golf course
19 May Water Corporation Site - Orelia
10 October Casuarina Prison – Subject to Approval from DCS)
19 – 20 October North of Thomas Rd (Radcliffe – McLaughlin Road)
24 October TBA
2 – 3 November North of Thomas Rd (Radcliffe – McLaughlin Road)

All hazard reduction burning is planned and completed in accordance with approved current prescriptions, permits, appropriate notifications and in accordance with all applicable standard operating procedures. Smoke management strategies will also be employed to minimise, where possible, the impact from bushfire smoke.

Restricted burning period
Burning is restricted during these months:

1 October - 30 November
1 April - 31 May

Permits may be granted to people living in rural areas for burning under strict guidelines, at no charge, by your Local Fire Control Officer. NO permits will be issued to residents in the urban residential and industrial area including those residing within Homestead Ridge.

Prohibited burning period
Burning is prohibited during this time, day or night.

1 December - 31 March
