Information on the Emergency
During a serious emergency, you can obtain information from the following outlets:
- Your local ABC Radio station at 15 minutes past the hour and 15 minutes to the hour;
- FESA Emergency Public Information Line (1300 657 209) for regularly updated messages;
- www.fesa.wa.gov.au; or
- Town of Kwinana on 9439 0200.
Where to go
In the event of a major emergency, designated evacuation centres are set up for the community to seek refuge.
The locations are dependent on where the emergency is taking place, however they will be broadcast on ABC Radio, and on the online and telephone information lines detailed above.
In some cases it may be safer to stay where you are; please follow the advice of the Emergency Services present.
Elderly/special needs residents
Kwinana Village Aged Care Facilities in Calista are set up to deal with any residents that require specialist care in an emergency. If you require special care please inform emergency services personnel on the scene.
Evacuation centre without transport
Mention your needs to the Emergency Services personnel present and they will arrange transport, including ambulances if necessary.
Animal needs
Kwinana has a detailed action plan to deal with the evacuation and care of domestic pets and livestock during an emergency. Please refer to

What to do when you leave your home
- Turn off your power, gas, and water;
- Lock all doors and windows;
- Take your emergency kit with you; and
- Let Emergency Services or Council staff know where you are going incase family/friends come looking for you.
Unable to Access your Home
The Department for Child Protection, with assistance from other groups such as the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, will work with victims to ensure they have shelter and food until they are able to return to their normal life. They may also be able to provide emergency funds.
