Environmental Health Officers look into pollution occurring in the area to reduce related health effects and improve the standards. Authorisation under the Health Act or the Environmental Protection (unauthorized discharges) Regulations 2004 gives the officers ability to deal with certain types of pollution.
Priority areas include:
- Solid and liquid rubbish disposal
- Air pollution
- Industrial premises not licensed by the Department of Environment and Conservation
- Noise
- Light emission
Officers conduct inspections through the Swan Catchment Light Industrial Program to assess and assist industrial premises in improving standards.
