Tips for a Healthy Committee and a Healthy Club
The committee has the responsibility to manage the organisation on behalf of its members. The role of the committee can be summarised into four main categories; plan, organise, lead or control.
Lead
A committee should operate as a team, draw on the skills of individuals and work towards common goals. Committee members should be committed, have sufficient time to devote to a committee, have an understanding of the role, have leadership skills, be dedicated and a good communicator.
Insurance for Committee Members
Is your club incorporated?
Once a group becomes incorporated, it acquires a new legal status – it becomes a legal entity in its own right, separate from the individual members. Meaning, committee members or officers of the association are generally not liable to contribute towards the payment of debts or liabilities of the association.
Organise
The Town of Kwinana's Community Development Fund provides incorporated, not-for-profit community organisations with the opportunity to apply for funding under the categories of Minor Capital Works, Minor Equipment, Innovative Program or Project.
For further funding opportunities from corporate bodies, state and federal governments on equipment, facilities, health promotion, crime prevention and leadership training access the Funding Matrix below.

Control
New members
Promoting a club's products or services is the most common form of marketing for new members. Promotional activities include; brochures, flyers, newsletters and local newspapers.
It is often difficult to convert potential customers into members. A successful club ‘sells' their pre-existing service by stimulating a potential customer who doesn't already use the service to purchase it. One of the most effective methods is through word of mouth, for example an existing member describes an awesome experience or achievement within their club, engaging the interest of their audience and stimulates a potential customer.
Retaining existing members
The cost of retaining current members is a lot cheaper and less time consuming than continually recruiting new members. A common method for clubs is through mail outs, which inform existing members of club services and registration details. To further promote member satisfaction and improve retention rates, clubs are encouraged to seek feedback from its members about the services provided throughout the season. The Feedback gathered informs the committee what has worked well and what hasn't, and is also good timing for clubs to address issues during the off season.
Volunteering
Volunteers are the backbone of sport and recreation clubs. As volunteers may seem in short supply, the Kwinana Volunteer Resource Centre connects enthusiastic volunteers with not-for-profit community organisations
