The Town of Kwinana Volunteer Resource Centre is spreading its wings to encompass the shortfall in services created by the recent closure of the Rockingham Centre. The Kwinana based organisation is now providing an alternative for all potential volunteers and agencies throughout the area previously covered by the Rockingham Volunteer Resource Centre.

Having recently relocated to the Town of Kwinana Library, the Kwinana Volunteer Resource Centre offers community minded individuals the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities that include event operations, gardening, kitchen work, caring for the elderly, drivers, mentors, educators, child care, office administration, emergency services, committee duties, accounting, and legal support.

With such a varied assortment of opportunities on offer, roles can often be tailored to align with an individual’s interests and skill set. Many positions are flexible and are shaped around the volunteers’ existing obligations. Time commitments vary greatly with some only able to commit one hour weekly, and others able to contribute numerous days each week. All levels of assistance are appreciated and all age groups are encouraged to get involved.

In particular need of volunteers at this time of year is the Town of Kwinana’s Live! series of events. These community based free events are the biggest and most celebrated local events, and the 2011 program certainly won’t disappoint with a calendar featuring the Alcoa’s Children’s Party on 11 October, the Festival Fair Day & Concert and Freakfest on 22 October, and the popular Petscapade Village at Wellard on 13 November. All of these events rely heavily on the services offered by volunteers to ensure a smooth operation process on the day.

The Kwinana Volunteer Resource Centre is open on Mondays and Tuesdays between the hours of 9am and 4pm, and is located in the Kwinana Library at the rear of the Hub Shopping Centre.

Application forms are available at the Kwinana Volunteer Resource Centre, on the Town of Kwinana website, or by calling 9419 1628. All candidates must be willing to obtain a Working with Children Check where applicable to the required duties.
