The Town of Kwinana is praising the work of not-for-profit animal welfare organisations following the release of statistics which show a favorable re-claim and re-home rate of dogs in Kwinana.
Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the Council had a very positive track record of re-homing at the Kwinana Pound.
"In the past six months around 215 dogs have either been reunited with their owners or relocated to approved animal welfare organisations," Mayor Adams said.
"This equates to a re-home rate of over 90% of the dogs who found themselves at our local pound."
Approved not-for-profit organizations which the Town re-locate dogs to include K9 Resuce, Animal Protection Society and Greyhound Adoptions WA.
"These organisations do their best to curb the number of dogs put down in Western Australia while operating under limited funding and resources," Mayor Adams added.
"We are hoping that with a little more public awareness, the fantastic work done by these associations can be better recognised and generate an even greater rate of re-homing."
