The Town of Kwinana has welcomed a grant recently provided by the Disability Services Commission that will be used to increase awareness of the accessibility provided within community infrastructure and by businesses residing within the Town.
The Town is a proud partner of the You’re Welcome WA Access Initiative, a project run by the Disability Services Commission involving the assessment of services and facilities to identify elements of accessibility for people with disabilities. The results are then provided to the public via a website at http://www.accesswa.com.au
The website provides useful information such as access measurements as well as outlining any access considerations, and offers its visitors the capability to search by location and facility type. The site also serves as a resource to businesses and community groups providing practical information and access awareness training in order to facilitate the accessibility progress of their services.
Mayor Carol Adams welcomes the project “We are very keen to expand upon the Town’s accessibility development in order to provide our residents with disabilities with access to increased facilities.”
The Mayor continued, saying that the You’re Welcome WA Access Initiative should result in increased public awareness and allow people with disabilities more confidence in knowing which facilities will meet their specific needs.
