The Town of Kwinana has introduced a new vehicle to its corporate vehicle pool, a Hybrid motor car, the council’s first environmentally based vehicle.
Town of Kwinana CEO Neil Hartley said the hybrid vehicle would initiate a trial which may very well result in council committing to more hybrid type cars in the future.
“It is becoming increasingly important that as an organisation we take appropriate actions to lessen the impact we have on our environment and this stretches from the amount of paper we use to the types of cars we drive,” Mr Hartley said.
“The Hybrid car will be monitored for fuel efficiency and whole of life costing and we are hopeful that investigations will show a very positive change. If results are as good as we are hoping, it is possible our vehicle fleet will move more towards the hybrid direction.”

The Town has been trialing diesel passenger vehicles, which are twice as fuel efficient as regular vehicles.
Kwinana Councillors also recently began using e-readers and laptops to view agendas and minutes for council meetings in an effort to reduce paper usage and as a result, reduce their ecological footprint.
