The Town of Kwinana Volunteer Resource Centre recently held a movie evening ‘Flick Night for Vollies’ which aimed to celebrate the contributions of community volunteers.
The event was held in conjunction with National Volunteer Week at Thomas Kelly Pavilion where volunteers were treated to the full cinema experience including popcorn, ice cream and the award winning movie The Kings Speech. Following the movie, guests enjoyed a light supper and spent time socializing with other volunteers.
Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams praised the efforts of local volunteers saying their combined contributions made Kwinana a safer and more community minded area.
“To see so many people giving their time for the benefit of the Kwinana community simply reinforces what we already know, and that is just how warm, friendly and community focused a lot of our residents are,” Mayor Adams said.
“The event gave us the opportunity to recognise these special people who make such a valuable contribution to our community and I would like to extend my gratitude to Lotterywest for supporting the evening.”
Over 80 volunteers from 17 different agencies attended the movie night.
Staff members at the Volunteer Resource Centre (VRC) offer a high quality of assistance to new and experienced volunteers and offer support throughout the entire volunteering experiencing. Considerable effort is given to initially matching a person to their ideal volunteering role.
The Kwinana VRC is located at the Hub Shopping Centre (near the Post Office). For further information on volunteering visit the VRC page or call the centre on 9419 1628.
