The Town of Kwinana is calling on residents to make a positive contribution to the local environment by getting involved in Australia's biggest community tree planting and nature care event on Sunday 31 July 2011.
The local National Tree Day event will be taking place at the Rotary Wildflower Reserve in Orelia, meeting at the corner of Sulphur Road and Nottingham Parkway. Activities start from 9am and all Kwinana residents are invited to volunteer on the day.
The planting day is a great chance for locals to connect with the community and get involved in a worthy cause. With an objective of 500 native seedlings to be planted at the reserve, Town of Kwinana Bushcare Officers are enthusiastic about the environmental benefits of the activity.
Since National Tree Day began in 1996, more than 2.5 million volunteers have planted 16 million native trees, shrubs and grasses.
This year people across the country will attend thousands of official tree planting and land care activities organised by councils, schools, businesses, communities and Toyota Dealers.
“National Tree Day is an opportunity for people to get involved in a fun and friendly community event to look after their parks, schools and bushland, which has long-lasting benefits for the entire community,” says Planet Ark spokesperson Rebecca Gilling. “There’s a sense of pride amongst the volunteers who enjoy improving their local environment and seeing the trees grow year upon year.”
This planting is part of a three year re-vegetation program at Rotary Wildflower Reserve generously funded by BHP Billiton’s Community Development Partnership Fund.
