The Town of Kwinana has welcomed news of Gorgon Project contracts being awarded to local fabricators as flow on effects look to boost local employment opportunities.

According to a recent State Government press release $100million in contracts have been awarded to AGC and Civmec and are expected to generate more than 200 local employment opportunities for the Kwinana region.
Acting Mayor Dennis Wood said this recent announcement would provide a much welcomed boost to local employment.

“The Gorgon Project has been hailed as a development which would provide thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities and it is great that Kwinana is now starting to see evidence of that,” Cr Wood said.

“It is our understanding that more than 200 jobs will become available to the local communities of this region, including Kwinana, as a result of this new WA contract and the flow on effect will result in even further indirect employment opportunities.”

“This announcement, combined with recently falling unemployment rates, puts Kwinana in an excellent position moving forward.”

“Not only is the Kwinana Industrial Area starting to see improved local employment but closer to home in the Town Centre works are being carried out which, as an example, will see the Hub Shopping Centre double in retail space and thus result in even further employment opportunities for our residents,” Cr Wood added.

The announcement follows the recently released State Government local industry participation framework which aims to improve local opportunity through a 10 point plan.
