With Easter fast approaching the Town of Kwinana will be holding a Blessing of the Roads Ceremony to encourage safe and happy trips.
Held on 21 April at Apex Park the Blessing of the Roads Ceremony gathers members of the community together to help promote the positive message of safe driving.
Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the Town was continually making efforts to promote road safety in the community and acknowledged that there was a shared responsibility.
“We all have a responsibility, whether driving, riding or walking to ensure the safety of ourselves and those around us,” Mayor Adams said.
“The Blessing of the Roads initiative encourages everyone to acknowledge and remember those who have recently passed on our roads and also reiterates the importance of practicing road safety at all times throughout the year.”
Kwinana residents are being reminded to slow down, to not drink and drive, wear seatbelts, ensure children are properly restrained, and take breaks to avoid fatigue when traveling.
The blessing is a joint effort by the Town of Kwinana and local police and includes prayers and a Welcome to Country by local religious leaders and Aboriginal Elders.
Local community members are encouraged to attend the blessing and help spread the message of safe driving not only over the Easter Holidays, but year round.
