On the 18 of January 2012, the Town of Kwinana in conjunction with the Department of Sport and Recreation will launch KidSport, one program in an all new four part initiative from the state government.

“Sport 4 All” is a $20 million state government project which aims to build stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities in WA, with KidSport being just one of the programs available. It aims to assist eligible families to receive up to $200 annually for each of their children aged between 5 and 18, to subsidise fees and join a local sport and recreation club.

With the recent launch of the new “Zone” Youth Space, KidSport is another beneficial initiative that the Town of Kwinana can add to their list of programs and facilities for the youth in their local community.

Mayor Carol Adams said she was looking forward to the Town getting KidSport up and running.

“Kwinana is well known for our healthy lifestyles programs and friendly spirit in all areas of competitive sport,” Mayor Adams said.

“Having opened two new multi-purpose pavilions for our local clubs in the past 2 years, KidSport will be another welcome initiative to encourage kids and parents to be actively involved in sport and recreation in the community.”

The program encourages youth to get more involved in their community by exposing them to the health and social benefits of organised club sports.

The Town of Kwinana will host an information evening about the program on Wednesday 18 January, 2012, at the Zone Youth Space. The workshop will commence at 6:30pm and is open to anyone looking to become involved in sport and recreation in the Kwinana community. Parents, children, school groups and community groups are all welcome. For further information, contact Byron de Freitas, Club Development Officer on 9439 0283 or at Byron.defreitas@kwinana.wa.gov.au.
