The Zone’s Red Cross Girls Group confirms that girls just want to have fun; organising the upcoming Youth Fancy Dress Dance Party on Friday 13 July 2012.

The girls group, celebrating individuality and diversity within Kwinana, was initiated in Term 2 at The Zone Youth Space, as a program to empower and up skill local youth. Upon meeting with staff, the girls collectively decided to turn their efforts towards organising a youth event, incorporating team building and personal development.

Driven by a nominated Chairperson and Acting Chairperson the group worked on all logistics of the event including sponsorship, entertainment, promotion, and decorations whilst also completing their FoodSafe training to allow the girls to assist with food preparation on the night.

“The Red Cross Girls Group is a true example of the complexity of organising an event and the skills youth are able to gain by attending programs provided by Youth Services”, Mayor Carol Adams said.

“The girls have inspired staff with their commitment and I’m sure the Fancy Dress Dance Party will be a huge success”.

The Youth Fancy Dress Dance Party will be held from 6pm to 9pm at the Zone Youth Space with young people aged 10 to 17 years asked to dress in their best blue or silver outfit.

Hair and makeup is available on the day of the event, with costumes available for youth who don’t have anything in the blue and silver theme.

$5 entry includes access to the dance party, a sausage sizzle and a can of drink, or young people can pay $10 which also includes entry to the roller disco, including skate hire. Entertainment includes a live DJ, dance off and a range of competitions and prizes.

The young girls will continue to attend the Red Cross Girls Group at the Zone Youth Facility that will recommence on a Friday afternoon in Term three starting at 3:30pm.
