Community members are being offered the opportunity to participate in a free specialist training workshop to learn about including people with disabilities in sport and physical activity.

Presented by Inclusion WA, ‘Inclusion in Sport’ will be held at the Kwinana Recquatic on 12 July 2011 and is part of an ongoing program of community wellbeing initiatives being run by the Town of Kwinana.

This one-day session will incorporate disability awareness education and practical information on adapting and modifying sporting activities.

This training aims to equip participants with broad knowledge about issues relating to disability in sport and the content is both theory and practical.

Town of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said this is essential training for anyone involved with running local sport.

“As a community we need to ensure everyone has the same opportunity to access sporting clubs, teams and events, especially when it comes to children with a disability that has previously excluded them.”

“This training will hopefully help break down some of those barriers and help stimulate ideas on the many ways to include people with disabilities,” Mayor Adams concluded.

Participants receive a certificate of participation upon completion of training and comprehensive support material.
