Kwinana residents can learn new ways to save money in their homes after the Town of Kwinana announced they will be supporting and hosting a free sustainable gardening workshop this month.

The Great Gardens workshop is the largest free community program in Australia with over 50,000 people having attended since its inception.

he Town of Kwinana Great Gardens workshop will provide in-depth information on how to incorporate new sustainable initiatives into your garden which will reduce the impact on the environment and your wallet.

Cost saving techniques for improving soil, mulching and planting water wise native plants will be covered and participants will learn how strategic planting around the home and garden can cut energy bills.

Recent figures from the Bureau of Meteorology showed that last winter was the second driest on record and the Water Corporation has also warned that less than average rainfall this winter would force tougher restrictions on our water and our gardens in the summer to follow.

PB270039.JPGSustainability expert Chris Ferreira said that there were some very real cost saving options at our disposal.

“By embracing our unique climate in WA and accepting the extremes of soils and weather, we can learn to live smarter and have a wonderful home and garden and we can dramatically reduce our heating, cooling and water bills,” Mr Ferreira said.

The Town of Kwinana Great Gardens workshop will be held on February 28 from 6:30-9:30pm at Koorliny Arts Centre.
