The National Year of Reading kicked off this week at the Kwinana Library, with an exciting year of events and activities filling the 2012 calendar.

Libraries, bookshops and community groups all over the country launched the significant occasion on 14 February, our own local library sharing with the first 100 visitors a sweet treat of chocolate indulgence.

The National Year of Reading will see a diverse range of events happening at the Kwinana Library such as author talks featuring guests the likes of Anna Jacobs and children’s writer Meg McKinlay, exciting performances and interesting displays.

The highlight of the calendar is scheduled for later in the year with the much anticipated opening of the Community Resource and Knowledge Centre, a $22m community facility featuring a state-of the art library and offering visitors the opportunity to read a book while relaxing with a coffee at the new Dome café and restaurant.
