The final funding for the long-anticipated Bertram Community Centre has been secured thanks to an $850,000 grant from Lotterywest, presented on site today by the Hon Phil Edman MLC, Member for South Metropolitan.

Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams referred to the announcement as an early Christmas present for the Town and the community of Bertram, saying that it’s now full steam ahead for the construction of the building.

‘The Bertram Community Centre is a much-needed facility that will service the many hundreds of young families that live in Bertram,’ Mayor Adams said.

‘The single-storey centre will include multipurpose rooms that can be used by community organisations, playgroups and other interest groups; consultation space for community health workers and an outside performance courtyard.’

‘Despite only just receiving the final funding required, the Town has been pushing ahead with the detailed design of the facility based on input from a community reference group, and we will therefore be able to tender for a builder almost immediately.’

‘I offer my sincerest thanks to Lotterywest, the Hon Phil Edman and the State Government,’ Mayor Adams concluded.

The Town currently has two major Lotterywest funded buildings underway – the Knowledge Centre and the Wellard Community Centre. The addition of this funding will take their total current commitment in Kwinana to over $10m.

The Bertram Community Centre, will cost $2.6m with the Town of Kwinana funding the other $1.75m and will be located on Hero Crescent, opposite the new Bertram Shopping Centre.
