Pensioner and Senior Rebates

Eligible pensioners can claim a rate and emergency services levy rebate of up to 50% on one property per year or may defer payment, in which case these become a charge against the property until sold or the pensioner ceases to occupy it. There is no interest charged on deferred rates or emergency services levy. Eligible seniors who hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card have the same entitlement. Eligible seniors can claim a rebate up to 25% (to a maximum of $234.90). At the 1st July of each rating year applicants must:

  • own and occupy property as his/her 'ordinary place of residence.
  • receive a pension and hold a Pensioner Concession Card or State Seniors Card;hold both a State Seniors Card and a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card; or hold a State Seniors card.
  • fully pay the pensioner/senior's portion of current rates by 30th June of the rating year or have agreed an arrangement referring any arears which must be paid in addition to the pensioner / seniors portion of the current rates.
  • register with the Town of Kwinana or Water Corporation. Applications can be registered by phoning the Water Corporation or forms are available from the Town of Kwinana Administration Building. Evidence of eligibility must be produced (photocopy of Pensioner Concession Card with current address). Concessions only apply once your application is received and registered.

Where land belongs to a number of persons, the rebate is apportioned according to the extent of each applicant's ownership of the property.

Pensioners must pay all charges other than rates and emergency services levy within 35 days of receiving the rate notice.
