Woodsmoke

Many Australians still enjoy the comfort and warmth of wood heaters but wood heaters are a major source of air pollution during winter. Particle emissions from wood heaters (as smoke) are often significant contributors to haze events. Wood heater owners have a responsibility to ensure their wood heater operates correctly and only burn dry, seasoned firewood.

Top tips for reducing smoke coming from your chimney:

  • Keep wood piles undercover
  • Only burn dry seasoned wood
  • Make sure the wood is burning brightly
  • Do not close the air intake control overnight
  • Clean your chimney once a year

Further tips and information are in the handouts below. If you are experiencing a problem with a neighbours wood heater you can approach them about the issue or contact the Town of Kwinana to lodge a formal complaint.
