Council Elections

Council Elections

The Town of Kwinana has eight Councillors who represent the Town as a whole. There is no ward system.

Local Government elections are held every two years on the third Saturday of October. Councillors are generally elected for a four year term of office. An extraordinary election may be held throughout the year should a Councillor pass away or resign mid term.

Electoral Roll

Persons eligible to be enrolled to vote must be over the age of 18 years, be an Australian Citizen or be ordinarily resident in the State of WA or be the owner or occupier of rateable property within the Town of Kwinana.

State Electoral Roll

You are already enrolled to vote in elections for the electorate in which you live if you are on the State electoral roll as a resident of that address. Persons resident within the Town of Kwinana for more than 3 months are eligible for inclusion on the State Electoral Roll. If you are not already on the State Electoral Roll and meet the eligibility criteria, a Claim for Enrolment application form should be completed. You can check your enrolment details by visiting Western Australian Electoral Commissions. Forms are also available at either the Town of Kwinana Administration building or at any Post Office.

Town of Kwinana Consolidated Electoral Roll

Electors registered on the State Electoral Roll as the resident of a property in the Town of Kwinana will automatically be enrolled. The State Electoral Roll is combined with the Town of Kwinana Electoral Roll to provide a consolidated roll for the elections.

If you occupy but do not own property in the Town of Kwinana or if you own property but do not reside in the Town, you can apply to go on the Town of Kwinana's consolidated Electoral Roll, by completing a Claim for Enrolment application form. Hard copies of the Town of Kwinana consolidated Electoral Roll are available to purchase at Council's office for $25.00 each (plus GST).

Owners and Occupiers

If a rateable property is owned or occupied by more than two people, a majority of the owner/occupiers may nominate two persons from amongst themselves who are on either the State of Commonwealth electoral rolls, to enrol as owner/occupier electors.

Corporations

A body corporate which owns or occupies rateable property may nominate two persons who are on either the State or Commonwealth electoral rolls to enrol as owner/occupier electors.

Voting

If you are unsure if you are on the Electoral Roll and to avoid disappointment of not being able to cast your vote at election time, check at the Town of Kwinana Administration building to ensure that your name appears on the Electoral Roll.

The Town of Kwinana uses the postal voting system. Full details will be sent to all eligible voters prior to the election.
