The Town of Kwinana has been identified for some time as an area of projected high growth. The extension of the Kwinana Freeway and the opening of the Perth to Mandurah rail line recently has opened up significant tracts of land running alongside the freeway. This land has been identified as an urban expansion area with the potential to provide 15,000 new lots over the next 15 years.

Recent studies commissioned by the Town of Kwinana on level of growth anticipated has indicated that by 2021, only 13 years from now, over 61,000 people will reside in the Town of Kwinana, this is an increase of 35,000 over this period.

This level of growth cannot be managed without clear forward planning and a strong understanding of the facilities and services that these new members of our community will require.

It is, of course, not only the obvious facilities such as schools, ovals, roads and shopping centres that this growth will require. Brand new facilities such a the new Community Resource and Knowledge Centre will only cater for a finite number of people and the Town must start planning for yet another major library facility to the east of the Town in the next decade.

In addition, the demographic profile of this new population is also needed, as recent studies have indicated huge differences in the number of children, young families and older people between different areas of the Town. Thus the information provides its own challenges and the Town must consider this when planning the location of the many new faculties and services that will be required.
