The Community Liaison team is made up of four team members who patrol the Kwinana central business district on a daily basis. The team aim to deter antisocial behaviour by providing an active presence and to build relationships with local police, security, business owners and community members to promote Kwinana CBD as a welcoming and inclusive community for everyone to enjoy.
Community safety rated highly in the Community Wellbeing survey conducted in 2016. The City plays a critical role in the planning, design, management and delivery of crime prevention programs and policies and works closely with the WA Police and other stakeholders to ensure community safety and wellbeing. Mayor Carol Adams said;
“Kwinana is a community with strong interests in the ongoing safety and security of its residents and visitors. Kwinana is now a thriving, diverse and vibrant community where everyone should feel welcomed and free to enjoy the City’s wonderful facilities such as the Edge Skate Park and the Kwinana Adventure Park. The Community Liaison team is playing a key role in promoting this message to the community.”
The Community Liaison service is a pilot program being trialled by the City of Kwinana over the next 12 months. Since the service commenced in October 2017 the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The community are responding very positively to the service and in particular local business owners who have welcomed the initiative.
