More time to read on weekends

22 January 2018

Library lovers will soon be able to enjoy extended opening hours as the Kwinana Public Library trials opening on Sundays. Commencing 4 February 2018, the Library will be open seven days a week, including 12noon to 4pm Sundays.

The Library continues to be a popular community hub in Kwinana, with more than 200,000 resources loaned last year. A recent survey highlighted a demand for additional opening hours, with members saying they valued the convenience of accessing the Library outside regular business hours. Weekends have already proven popular since Saturday opening hours were introduced in 2015. Many of the Library's most successful and well-attended events have taken place on a Saturday, including author visits and children's performances.

Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said there was more to the Library than people might think.

"If you haven't visited the Library in a while, it might be time to take another look," said Mayor Adams.

"There is so much more than books - you can now borrow toys, comics, games, jigsaw puzzles, DVDs, music CDs, pedometers, engravers, home energy assessment kits, and more. There is even an enormous collection of video games available to take home and play. Even better - Library membership is completely free."

Survey respondents mentioned the welcoming feeling, the helpful staff and the huge range of recourses as the top reasons they enjoyed visiting the Kwinana Library.

The Kwinana Public Library is located within the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre , Corner of Robbos Way and Chisham Avenue, Kwinana Town Centre, 6167.
