20 December 2017
The festive season is well and truly underway in Kwinana, with our giant Christmas tree lighting up the City Centre and the buzz of Christmas activities and events all around.
If you haven’t experienced Christmas in Kwinana yet, you’re in for a treat. Every year since 1954, Kwinana has celebrated with one of the most unique and joyful Christmas traditions in any community - the Kwinana Lolly Run. This much-loved spectacle sees groups of volunteers get dressed up and deliver lolly bags to every neighbourhood on just about any mode of transport possible; from sleds, to firetrucks, to utes adorned with tinsel. Listen for the beeps and cheers on Christmas morning as the Lolly Run volunteers make their way through your street.
I would like to extend a special thank you to all volunteers working over the Christmas period to ensure the rest of us can enjoy a safe and happy break. Our emergency services volunteers work particularly hard in Kwinana, keeping us safe during bushfire season. Please do take note of the City’s fire restrictions this summer. For all those heading away over the break, please travel safely and take extra care during this busy time on our roads.
However you choose celebrate, or not celebrate, Christmas this year, I hope you have the chance to enjoy a well deserved break and spend some time with your friends and family.
On behalf of the Councillors and staff at the City of Kwinana, I would like to wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams
