The City of Kwinana is proud to be recognised as small business friendly as part of the state's Small Business Development Corporation initiative. This new initiative, developed by the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC), formally recognises local governments that are demonstrating, or working towards, 'better practice' in engaging with their small business community. By signing the Charter the City has committed to small businesses by:
recognising small businesses as an important stakeholder and consulting regularly;
understanding how small businesses operate, their needs, goals and key challenges;
providing clear service standards, setting out what the City will do to support local business;
giving clear advice and guidance to help business owners meet their regulatory obligations;
regularly reviewing policies to check for 'small business friendliness';
taking reasonable action to limit unnecessary administrative burdens;
ensuring prompt payment of small business invoices;
providing networking and other development opportunities for local business owners;
regularly meeting with and consulting members of the local small business community to improve our understanding of their needs; and
managing disputes in a timely and cost effective manner.
Mayor Carol Adams said the City was committed to making Kwinana an attractive location to establish and grow a small business.
"Small business are part of the fabric of our community—not only do they provide employment options and necessary goods and services, they make Kwinana a lively and more vibrant place to live and work.
"It's our vision that Kwinana is a City alive with opportunities, and small businesses play a key role in achieving this goal," said Mayor Adams
According to the Small Business Development Corporation there are more than 218,000 small businesses in Western Australia, accounting for 95 percent of all businesses in the state.
