City releases plan for next 10 years

29 June 2017

The City’s Strategic Community Plan 2017-2027 was formally adopted at last night’s Council meeting. The Plan sets out the long term vision and aspirations of the Kwinana community over the next 10 years, guiding all the work the City undertakes. It outlines not only what the community would like to see, but specific strategies for how the City plans to achieve this vision.

City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the Strategic Community Plan was the City’s most important document.

“The Strategic Community Plan lays out a clear direction for the City. It holds us accountable to our community’s vision while ensuring we remain focused on the ‘big picture’. Everything we do as a Council is a step towards achieving the vision outlined in the Strategic Community Plan,” Mayor Adams said.

The newly adopted Plan is the first major review of the document initially adopted in 2013. Extensive consultation with the Kwinana community was undertaken during 2016 and 2017 to ensure the Plan remained in line with the growing and changing Kwinana community. Residents were invited to answer the question “where do you see Kwinana in ten years?’.  Ideas were collected through a series of workshops and surveys at community events, online and via mail.

Kwinana’s vision for the future remains the same: ‘rich in spirit, alive with opportunities, surrounded by nature – it’s all here’. The vision statement succinctly represents the community’s aspirations for the future

Kwinana is now the second fastest growing local government area in Western Australia according to the 2016 Census. From 2015 to 2016 Kwinana’s population grew by 4.5%- more than four times the WA rate.

“The Kwinana community is growing and changing rapidly and it is our responsibility to keep up. This is why our Strategic Community Plan is so important.” said Mayor Adams.

“If you think back to Kwinana 10 years ago you would hardly recognise it today. We have transformed into a vibrant metropolitan City that boasts state-of-the-art facilities like no where else in the state. It is exciting to envision what can be achieved in the next 10 years through our Strategic Community Plan.”
