Major Projects

Kwinana is a ‘hyper-growth’ council and every 12 hours a new family moves into the area. In the next decade there will be over 7000 new homes constructed and our population will be double what it is today. All of the work the Town is undertaking at present is not only for our current population, but also in preparation for these thousands of new residents who will proudly call Kwinana home in the coming years.

Town Centre Revitalisation
Key projects are set to be completed early in 2012. New road construction, footpaths, and landscaping are short term projects already underway and will allow for a lively and accessible meeting place when the Town Centre reopens for pedestrian and vehicle use later in 2011.

Work on the new $22 million Community Resource and Knowledge Centre began in December 2010. This iconic and important community facility will change the landscape in the Town Centre area and provide state of the art library facilities, a function hall, café, crèche and offices for not-for-profit groups. This facility is set to be complete by mid 2012.

New roads & footpaths
Substantial changes to the road layouts around the Town Centre are underway to improve access and traffic flow to the new and existing facilities. New footpaths are also being created so that there is a continuous pedestrian connection across the civic precinct, linking the high school to the retail precinct and further south.

Landscaping and Town Square
Landscaping works will be carried out throughout 2011 in order to beautify the area. This includes the creation of the new Town Square that will be constructed at the stage when the Community Resource and Knowledge Centre is part complete

Niche Kwinana
Ninety residential lots will soon start construction on the vacant land between Meares Avenue and the rear of the Recquatic. The homes, a mixture of single storey, double storey and loft homes will be built and sold as finished product.

Hub Shopping Centre
Hub owners Woolworths are progressing with the redevelopment and aim to have the shopping centre fully redeveloped by the end of 2012.

A major upgrade of our beautiful and historic beachside area at Wells Park is underway with new footpaths in place that will help create a continuous link to Rockingham Beach.

Wellard and Bertram Community Centres
New community centres are being constructed in both Wellard and Bertram in the near future. The Town has tendered for architectural services for both buildings, after which design will take about six months. The Wellard Community Centre is fully funded and we hope to see work starting within the coming months, however the Town is still seeking final funding for the Bertram facility.
