The Hub Shopping Centre will soon double in size with the much anticipated redevelopment set to begin this year.

The Town and Woolworths have reached an agreement for the immediate redevelopment of the Hub Shopping Centre following this week’s council meeting.

During Wednesday’s Council meeting the CEO was been delegated the authority to approve the development application submitted by Woolworths.

Mayor Carol Adams commented on the decision, saying the redevelopment would be accelerated as a result.

“Woolworths are eager to get work underway and I am sure my fellow residents are as enthusiastic as I am to see the redevelopment of the centre get started.”

The major upgrade of the Hub Shopping Centre will see almost double the current retail floor space, growing from 16,738m2 to 30,794m2 and encompassing a multitude of new shopping and dining experiences, mini major stores, speciality shops and a major Big W department store.

Brand new and increased car parking facilities will be included in the redevelopment as well as a new bus port and centre entry points.

“The Hub Shopping Centre was the missing piece in our vision for Kwinana’s future and not only have we secured the redevelopment of the shopping centre, but Woolworths have also generously committed nearly $800,000 to the upgrade and beautification of Chisham Avenue,” Mayor Adams said.

Mayor Adams continued, saying that the Hub redevelopment would complement the massive redevelopment on the opposite side of Chisham Avenue.

“Our new $22m Knowledge Centre that is well underway, will include a state-of the art library as well as a Dome café and restaurant, all opening up to an exciting and interactive Town Square.”

“With the new Youth Space nearly complete and the Tavern construction finally underway, it is certainly a landmark era for Kwinana’s Town Centre.”

It is expected that Woolworths will begin work on the Hub Shopping Centre later this year with the project expected to take no more than 18 months to complete.
